Task:
Conduct a detailed research study that highlights the most common challenges informal businesses in Sierra Leone face (e.g., tailors, food vendors, mechanics, kehkeh riders, etc.). The research should explore how existing digital tools and platforms (e.g., WhatsApp, mobile money, inventory apps, delivery services, etc.) can help address these problems and importantly, where those digital solutions fall short or face resistance in adoption.
Deliverables:
A written research paper (minimum 8 pages) or slide deck (minimum 12 slides) that includes:
Include at least 3 references (interviews, news articles, reports, or papers)
Submission Requirements:
Your research must focus on informal businesses currently operating in Sierra Leone this is not theoretical.
You must cite real tools and platforms, especially those available locally.
Interviews or short chats with actual business owners are strongly encouraged.
Use simple, clear language this document should be accessible and actionable, not just academic.
Judging Criteria:
Depth of Research: Are the challenges and insights clearly backed by data, quotes, or examples?
Relevance: Does it speak directly to the Sierra Leonean informal business context?
Balance: Does it explore both the benefits and the limitations of digital tools?
Clarity & Structure: Is the research easy to follow and well-organised?
Actionability: Are there practical takeaways for founders, product designers, or investors?

This research will help shape future bounties and product ideas that aim to support informal businesses in Sierra Leone. We intend to share it with founders and development teams who are building tech for the local market.
